I had a really interesting job interview this afternoon. . . we got to talking about sites where people confess their inner most feelings about their place of employ.
Not too long ago, I discovered TrueOfficeConfessions, which allows you to anonymously complain and commiserate with other office workers.
The hiring director today directed me to JobVent, where people rate their employers and former employers on a number of factors. No surprise that my last company had a very negative score. How does yours fair?
Update: A few comments got me thinking, are people with bad experiences much more likely to “vent” on an anonymous space? Are complainers are more likely to shout it from the rooftops or take up a cause to improve a situation? (When I’m looking to make a purchase, Amazon product reviews seem balanced and honest, so maybe I’m completely off the mark.) If companies asked their employees to go online and do an honest assessment of the company they work for, how much shift would be seen in those scores.
Want more info when evaluating companies, Lindsey Pollak highlighted “best employer” resources on her blog yesterday.

Pretty interesting. Heather B. Armstrong of Dooce says this about her website: “I started this website in February 2001. A year later I was fired from my job for this website because I had written stories that included people in my workplace. My advice to you is BE YE NOT SO STUPID. Never write about work on the internet unless your boss knows and sanctions the fact that YOU ARE WRITING ABOUT WORK ON THE INTERNET.”
Hi Herman,
We have created a social network which you can only subscribe to if you have a company email address. That means the site is restricted to the people of your company.
So it’s safer to discuss work related topics on there, than just in the open.

Hi Just checked out Job Vent. It’s an interesting site. I looked up Disney and it doesn’t sound like a great place to work. I thought there had to be some perks as I’d heard that the pay isn’t great, but most of the posters sounded really unhappy.
