I swung by the farmer’s market near my apartment on Saturday to pick up a 10lb bag of Valencia oranges. While I was there I swung by a vendor that usually has apple juice, but I just wasn’t finding the plastic bottles that it typically comes in.
Inquiring as to whether they had apple juice, because I can’t find the little pint plastic bottles, the man explains that from now on, it will only be available in glass containers because A) apple juice tastes better from glass bottles and B) the state would prefer vendors use class instead of plastic because of rising petroleum prices.
Aren’t we trading one bad container option for another? Instead of throwing out 3 million plastic bottles each day, California would like to transition over to chucking that many glass bottles. How do we not have biodegradable packaging on all food at this point? Surely someone in a lab somewhere has figured out how to make that happen.
