Vaccines + Autism: Admitting fault would be a costly undertaking

Huffington Post blogger David Kirby has a new entry up about American Academy of Pediatric’s requests for shelving an episode of Eli Stone which features a court case over the potential for mercury in vaccinations to cause autism. Rather he thinks the AAP should focus on the mounting evidence the mercury levels do seem in some way correlated to autism diagnoses. And that comparable evidence suggests a link between asthma and a standard childhood vaccinations.

He’s missing the point. It’s in the best financial interest of the medical establishment to suppress this information and limit public dialogue on the topic. Legally mandated vaccines are easy money for pharmaceutical companies when every child in the nation must be vaccinated against a particular disease. Vaccines can garner a pretty hefty markup over their wholesale cost to doctors. That’s money in pediatricians’ pockets that has long been a guaranteed source of income. If the additives/preservatives in vaccines are increasingly linked to illnesses then parents are going to start questionning vaccines completely. Are you willing to risk one serious illness to prevent another? How comfortable would you be playing Russian Roulette with your child’s life?

Next, by admitting any guilt, the medical establishment would be held financially responsible for such findings. Kirby discusses one such case.

. . .the Department of Justice agreed that mercury-containing vaccines “severely aggravated” the autism symptoms in at least one child, and I would wonder if research into what triggered that severe aggravation might provide at least some clues into the perpetual mysteries of the disorder and its causes.

And, if I were Dr. Jenkins, rather than wringing my hands and trying to censor a TV-show verdict, I would truly worry about what will happen when parents realize that the Federal Government’s concession has been sealed — preventing the public (and future plaintiffs) from viewing what could only be described as “evidence of harm.”

As news of this first success reaches the mainstream, expect more lawsuits to follow. Just because evidence was buried by this trial, doesn’t mean it can’t be found again by a team of legal eagles filling a class action lawsuit on behalf of parents nationwide.

Slate columnist Arthur reported on upcoming federal court proceedings addressing 4800 claims regarding the damage vaccinations caused in children.

If the court finds that vaccines are guilty of triggering autism, it could order lifelong payments for the care of thousands of autistic children. This would bankrupt the vaccine-compensation program, created two decades ago to shield the drug industry from lawsuits while providing the parents of vaccine-damaged children with a no-fault means of payment. The compensation fund, which currently contains about $2.5 billion, is financed by a tax on pediatric vaccines.

Wins in a portion of the upcoming suits could trigger another wave of lawsuits that the government and Big Pharma aren’t prepared to deal with.

Of equal concern: change. Vaccines would have to be reformulated to exclude potential irritants, possibly dramatically reducing their shelf lives and potentially diminishing profits for physicians and the pharmaceutical industry. History tends to repeat itself.

In 1997, Congress passed the FDA Modernization Act, which required the FDA to review all drugs that contained mercury and determine their adverse effects on humans. For many years, Thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative, was added to childhood vaccines in multi-dose bottles, basically to increase profits for vaccine makers.

Its important to know that Thimerosal is not a necessary component for vaccines. If they are packaged in single dose vials, the preservative is not needed. There is mounting evidence, that shows our government knew about the dangers of adding Thimerosal to vaccines. Research by WFAA-TV revealed that the FDA began asking questions about the dangers as far back as 1972. By 1992, the preservative had been removed from dog vaccines and contact lens solutions because of its risks. And yet the government refused to order its removal from childhood vaccines for 10 more years. (StatSheet.com)

Money is at the heart of these attempts at spinning a mounting body of evidence. The cost implications of agreeing there is a problem would be staggering to Big Pharma and physicians alike.

  1. john fryer Says:

One million people ill with autism to save less than 10 that might die from measles?
Lets not forget one million cot deaths either?
    This is Not Russian Roulette.
It is the return of the HOLOCAUST.
60 000 pediatricians stumped for 70 years as to the possibility that a brain destroying toxin might or might not harm our children.
Russia solved it in 1982 – no THIMEROSAL in vaccines
Europe solved it in 1991 – no THIMEROSAL in vaccines
But USA still thinks in 2008 that brain destroying toxins are a MYTH. In 2008 USA still thinks THIMEROSAL is good for us and adds it our FLU vaccine etc etc.
WOW! Junk Science RULES KO the little children of USA.
