Heartbreaking photo essay of an abandoned school in Detroit

The interior of the former Detroit Public Schools’ book depository is the first of many heart-breaking photos in James Griffioen’s Vice Magazine photo essay.   It’s not only sad to see a place of learning abandoned, but that so many resources that could have been used by other school districts and charities were left to rot is just criminal.

  • I’m currently student teaching and I can tell you schools should never let supplies go to waste. Every resource is one more tool for students to learn with.

  • Mr. Hot was telling me about this today. Such a huge waste. There was a principal’s office that still had all of the student records in it. Computers that were ransacked for the precious metals they contained, instead of being used for the precious knowledge they could provide.

    Stupid, stupid people.
