The Leading Man: Prop Knife Replaced With Real One

Vienna theater actor possible target for murder:

An actor slit his throat on stage when the prop knife for his suicide scene turned out to be a real one.

Daniel Hoevels, 30, slumped over with blood pouring from his neck while the audience broke into applause at the “special effect”. Police are investigating whether the knife was a mistake or a murder plot. They are questioning the rest of the cast, and backstage hands with access to props; they will also carry out DNA tests.

Instantly reminded me of the ending of The Leading Man, a little seen indie from 1996 starring Jon Bon Jovi, Anna Galiena, Lambert Wilson and Thandie Newton.  Anyone else see that movie?

VOD: West Wing turns a page

The election of Barack Obama aligned with the election of Matt Santos in the final season of The West Wing. Given our knowledge of the people who inspired them The West Wing (Obama, Emanuel, etc), it seems life imitated art that imitated life.

QOD: Tina Fey on parenting

“I thank my parents for somehow raising me to have confidence

that is disproportionate with my looks and abilities.

Well done. That is what all parents should do.”

10/3 Deadline: Goals B4 Turning 30 TV Opportunity

For those of you dreaming of being a hit reality TV star, pull it together.

An opportunity was passed along via a yahoo group that I’m part of. All the details I have are below, use the contact info below to follow up.

I am currently casting a show for a major television network.  We are looking for groups of women (friends, coworkers, club members, etc.) in their 20s and 30s who have a list of goals they’d like to accomplish before turning 30 or 40.  The show will focus on self-discovery and empowerment.  It will have a very positive and inspirational message.  Because the show will require a minimal time commitment (possibly just a few days of filming), all of you are welcome to submit.  Also, I would be very grateful if you could forward my casting to any of your friends or colleagues that might be interested.

We will be visiting San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington DC but are accepting video submissions from all over the country!

DO YOU HAVE A LIST OF THINGS YOU WANT TO DO BEFORE YOU TURN 30 OR 40?

A MAJOR NETWORK WOULD LIKE TO GIVE YOU AND YOUR 3 GIRLFRIENDS A LIFE CHANGING TRANSFORMATIONAL OPPORTUNITY.

Are you excited or nervous about turning the big 3-0 or 4-0?  Do you have a vision of life at 30 or 40 and what you want to achieve before that happens? Tell us what the top 10-15 things on your “To Do Before 30/40″ list are and a major network may help those dreams become a reality.  Send us:

1.    Name, Age, City, Current Occupation, Phone number and email address

2.    Top 10-15 Things you want to do before you turn 30/40 and why?

3.    Recent picture of you and two or three girlfriends you would want to participate in helping you complete your list and their contact info.

If you are interested in participating, please email angie500things(AT)gmail.com ASAP or by THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3RD with the above information, and someone will be in touch.  We will send you a formal application after receiving your response if we would like to move forward.  We are coming to San Francisco, Chicago, Washington DC, and Los Angeles to conduct interviews!

VOD: Using reverse psychology — DON'T VOTE — to get out the vote

I love this video.  The celebrities aren’t taking a stance on any issue in particular.  Instead, they press the importance of voting, period.

A bunch of celebrities are demanding that you don’t vote because voting is stupid. No one cares about education, health care, abortion, polar bears, the economy, etc.

But then celebrity after celebrity point out that what you care about might matter.  From social security to Darfur to the AIDS crisis at home and abroad, the 2nd ammendment, war on drugs. “This is really only about your future.”

They remind you that you need to REGISTER to vote and insist they’ll wait for you to register before moving on.

It’s completely non-partisan, but it reminds people of the issues at stake (regardless of the position you take on those issues), the need to register (the deadline is October 4th in some states) and the necessity of voting.

And of course, they ask you to take the message viral and share it with 5 friends.

PS. Maybe it leans left. But much of Hollywood is pretty liberal. The point is non partisan — vote!

QOD: on relationships

Again from Amy’s O (2002); the film has some great talking points.

Matthew: Look, I know this sounds horrible, but. . . The way I see it, you don’t choose your family, you’re stuck with them.  You choose your friends, your lovers. It’s God’s second chance at letting you fix everything that was f*cked up in your childhood.

Amy: Yeah, but your lovers are just an extension of your parents. And if you don’t heal your rift with your mom, you’re going to replay the same drama with all your girlfriends.

Matthew: This is a date (stroking her arm); It’s not therapy.

Amy: Is there a difference?

I don’t think I look pretty when I’m made up.

I feel beautiful when I’m sweating

and I’m tired and I’m working really hard.
